28th Jul 1909- The Anti-Aircraft

As outbreak of the war was occurring, people started to realise that it was very difficult to shoot a aircraft out of the sky with just a rifle; in response, creating anti-aircraft. Anti-Aircraft artillery was the main weapon against planes. These heavy guns set atop a Pierce-Arrow five-ton armored lorry chassis. They could fire four rounds a minute at a range of 3,000 yards. Most of the time they were placed in groups to increase their effectiveness. The first were produced by Germans in 1909 before the war even began. Few were made considering the cost to make them was so expensive making it so they had little going into the war. In Britain an Anti-Aircraft Brigade was formed by the Royal Marine Artillery. By June 1916 Britain had 271 guns, and by 1918 they had 349.
